We Love Music Therapy
Here's why you will too:
Music for every brain
Resound Music therapy uses the therapeutic application of music to support a range of developmental milestones. This can sometimes look like approaches such as singing, structured movement interventions, musical instrument play, counselling, music listening, creative play, song writing and music learning to support individuals with a range of challenges and needs. Because music has a direct impact on our brain, we can use music intentionally to support the growth of useful neural pathways, or bypass underdeveloped areas that are causing difficulties.
Did you know? Music therapy for kids can support their:
- Early Childhood Development, such as fine and gross motor milestones.
- Attention challenges, such as difficulty with prolonged cognitive tasks and joint attention during play.
- Language and Communication Development, such as building pre-verbal speech sounds, articulation and clarity, initiation of words, confidence speaking and more... and,
- Social skills, such as authentically relating with others, advocating for their boundaries, sharing, taking turns and expanding their play skills.
Music for every mood
Music isn't just for birthday parties or the school band. With a few clever and intentional strategies, music can be used to shift our kids mood in any direction - whether it's to help them calm down, or active their 'go-mode'! Although many of us use music intuitively to manage our mood and emotions, very few people understand the deeper potential that music interventions can have on our physiological responses to daily stress. If used intentionally, music can be the tool that builds our muscles of regulation, without the need for talking or cognitive strategies often used in other therapies.
Did you know? Things that music therapy can help kids with include:
- Anxiety, persistent worry and symptoms of depression,
- Life Transitions, such as stress from moving from kinder to primary school, changes to family structures,
- Relaxation, such as improving kids' sleep routines and overall well-being across environments
- Emotion Regulation, such as reducing meltdowns, improving emotional literacy and expression of emotions both verbally and non-verbally.
- Difficulties with Self-Esteem, Grief, Loss, and Bereavement.
Hey,
I'm so glad you've made it here. I am sure you're wondering a little about me, so here's the short version for you curious souls!..
I am a registered Music Therapist, educator, speaker and creator of Resound Music Therapy - Based in Melbourne, Australia. For over 13 years, I've been supporting families to develop their child's
musicality, language development and
social skills while helping their parents and siblings move through anxiety, life transitions and find a groove with their family's unique way of communicating, connecting and creating.
I truly believe that creative communities are happy and healthy ones, which is why I have also worked with schools and community groups providing group music therapy to regulate children's emotions, enhancing families and kids social and play skills and tackle academic goals with fun and engagement - and all with resounding success!
